Oh, the humanatee.

As reported by the Arizona Daily Star , our beloved Arizona legislature has been at it again. This time, amongst the myriad bills they worked to push through prior to busting out of session like crazed wildebeests, was one establishing Arizona's State Gun.

Ayup. Arizona's state gun. We are just PURE CLASS down here, y'all.

Affected southern accents aside, this is ridiculousness in its purest form. Arizona has no need for a state gun, much in the same way Maine has no need for a state dessert. At least that one kills you slowly.

This is pretty much a big "fuck you" to everyone in the state who is alarmed by increasing gun privileges and gun violence in our own communities. Brewer may have (shock and awe!) blocked the law allowing people to carry guns in public rights of way on university campuses, but the legislature just needs to get that last dig in. "And just in case you forgot, we still love guns! Guns guns guns everywhere! Guns... the solution!"

Because we know how much our friends love 2nd amendment remedies.

By the way, they also opened the session with a tribute to the Tucson shooting victims.

Oh, the humanatee...

GIVE THEM YOUR MONIES

This is a brief plea for you go to give money to Arizona Public Media, who is Tucson's local NPR station. After the recent attacks from Republicans at the national level, it's time to show some love for our local station. I find it amusing to add comments to my donation (I chose "Bite me, Boehner") and if you donate $90 you can get a sweet I <3 NPR t-shirt (I hope mine's hot pink). If you're more noble than I, you can forego the gift and just give them money.
Also, one time the local guy played a Ween song behind him while he was talking. I think that's worth at least $7.50 a month.

$&^! Be Crazy

After the initial novelty of a blog has worn off, it becomes daunting. There are too many topics to cover with too many sources available for each, too many assaults on our basic human rights to address. There're too many people already talking about the same things, often more eloquently. There's little time.

Sometimes I forget that the point of this is to air thoughts and feelings without having to properly cite and source and justify everything. I'm not a journalist. I'm just a voter. And I get to say whatever I want.

That said, SHIT BE CRAZY. What the hell is happening in this state? In this country? And I'm not even talking about the fact that my congresswoman, whom I adore, was shot 4 miles from my house. That's something I don't even want to think about.

Let's break it down (down).

The Feds:
* Budget crap. Seriously, cutting funding to NPR and Planned Parenthood is going to save us from our budget deficit? I feel like Seth and Amy. Seriously. Seriously? Seriously.
* Continual attacks on women's health, especially reproductive health. Makes me want to smash my head through a brick Boehner.
* Uh, hey guys, remember climate change? You know that thing that's going to kill us all like really soon? As soon as the deficit supposedly is? Maybe we should do something about that. OH WAIT, YOU'RE CONVINCED IT DOESN'T EXIST.
* Blocking like every appointment Obama tries to make in the government. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

The State of Arizona:
* SB1070 + others. We just <3 our racism down on the border.
* Relaxing gun control after that thing I don't want to talk about. Because allowing students and faculty and staff to carry loaded, concealed weapons on college campuses makes us all safer. Let's also make a law so no one can wear bulletproof vests. That way crazed gunmen can't wear them!
* Even more attacks on women's health and reproductive rights. Because a clump of cells should have more rights than an adult woman!
* Slashing education funding. Even though we just voted in a sales tax increase to keep that from happening. IS ANYONE IN PHOENIX PAYING ATTENTION?!

So that's a lot of stuff. Maybe I'll try and do topic by topic rants again. But it's all so overwhelming these days.
